Boating in the Norh Carolina Mountains- Cashiers Area

Lake Glenville is one of Cashiers best resources! Just 3 miles from Laurelwood Inn is one of the most beautiful mountain lakes!  It covers 1450 acres and boasts many amazing waterfalls that can only be seen from the lake.  On any given day you will find many different activities taking place on the lake, everything from waterskiing to canoeing!

The Friends of Lake Glenville have a wonderful website. with beautiful photos and lots of information about the lake.

We enjoy spending time there and this photo was taken last week:

We have had many fun hours on the lake with our family.  They have all survived their dad pulling them on the tube!

Signal Ridge Marina rents several different types of boats.  Click here for more information!

And as always, book your rooms via our website or give us a call at 800-346-6846. Summer is a wonderful time to visit Cashiers!

Birdwatching in the Cashiers and Highlands area.

Did you know that our area is a great place to see many different types of birds?  Just click on this list of birds to see what I mean!  Here at Laurelwood Inn, we decided it was time to replace and upgrade our birdfeeders.  Wow, what a difference it has made.  Take a look at some of these photos:

Ok...so you can tell I am not an expert at photographing birds!  Every time I tried to take a picture with birds on the feeders, they would fly away....guess I don't have the patience to sit and wait for them to come back! But did want to show you some of the nice feeders we have in place for the season! If you stay with us, be sure to send me your bird photos and I put them on our website!

The birds also seem to love all the water features we have on our property and it is not unusual to see them taking a bath!

Our area even has it's own Audubon Society that offers many wonderful field trips and activities.  Their website has great information for anyone interested in learning more about the birds in our area.

The Cashiers-Highlands area is known for all our hiking trails which are perfect for birding! Take a look at this website to see just how many great spots there are to visit!

We would love for you to come stay with us this summer!  Click here to get to our website and book your room. You can also just call us at 800-346-6846.

Tour de Cashiers 2014-Spring in the Mountains!

We are finally enjoying some nice warm weather.  Flowers are starting to bloom.  It's been a cold winter so I think it makes these warm days seem even nicer.  Activity is really picking up. All the restaurants in our area are now re-opened!  Shops are open, especially on the weekend days.  It's a great time to come this way for a visit.

There are several events coming up.  A big one is The Cashiers Tour de Cashiers and it is always a popular event. It is a bicycle race and fun to either participate in or just sit on our front porch and enjoy watching and cheering on the racers. This years Tour de Cashiers is on Saturday, May 3rd.  Here is a link to the Tour de Cashiers. Their site gives this information about the 3 rides: The mountainous route features stunning scenery and challenging ascents with total elevation gains of up to 10,500 feet. The Century 100-mile and the Metric 50-mile rides include long climbs and fast descents. The Quarter Century 25-mile route is a great introduction to cycling along the Blue Ridge. All three routes provide challenge and inspiration for those wanting to test their conditioning on an all-day supported ride.

Laurelwood Inn is once again a proud sponsor of this wonderful event so if you stay with us that weekend expect to see a lot of bicycles in our parking lot as we are a popular accommodation for the riders!

Along with spring always comes project around the inn.  Look at the mountain of mulch we are spreading over the playground area!

Our housekeepers have been doing a lot of extra spring cleaning and we are putting out the bird feeders!  Excitement is in the air, so please come see us!  Call 800-346-6846 to book your room reservation or as always you can go to our website to book your favorite room!
